BALTIMORE, MD, 8/11/08 The Rev. Edward "Monk" Malloy, C.S.C., President Emeritus of the University of Notre Dame, left, and his nephew John Rorapaugh, 41, of Laurel, MD., arrive at Johns Hopkins Hospital at 5:45am Monday for a series of operations which will give John a new kidney. Monk volunteered to be a living donor for John whose kidneys stopped functioning two years ago making thrice weekly dialysis sessions a neccessity. In a swap arrangement, John received the kidney of a young man and Monk's kidney went to the man's mother. The operations lasted till 6:30pm. The transplant was successful and both John and Monk will remain in the hospital for several days to make sure there are no complications. As they wait to check in with the staff of the hospital, Monk carries his ever present stack of books to read over the next few days. (Photo by John Long)
